Free herbs for Black & Indigenous folks

Funded by community. Free to all who seek it.

Serenus medicines are formulated for chronic pain, anxiety & immunity, but may resonate with people who do not experience any of those issues. Serenus is owned/operated by a single chronically-ill & disabled Black Indigenous person. While I work hard to ensure that there are always funds in the herb bank to support incoming requests, you may have a wait time between requesting and receiving your order.

All Black and/or Indigenous community members are invited to request a free herbal care package, 2 times per year, no questions asked.

  • “The Herb Bank had an immensely impactful effect on my life. It helped me stay grounded, become healthier, and manage my chronic pain. These are some of the main issues I have as someone who is mentally and chronically ill. I typically can't afford the medicine or therapeutic practices that aid in me feeling better, but the Herb Bank gave me something I could do it at home with no cost and actually mitigates my symptoms.”

  • “I absolutely loved receiving homegrown, Black appropriated medicines from someone who truly has a praxis of care centering marginalized Black people. I also have A LOT of allergies and I truly appreciate there were options and the careful correspondence to make sure I got what I need💜”

    - L'Soft

  • "I’ve gotten herbs from @serenusherbs at times when I needed them most and couldn’t afford meds. Please support this herb bank and the work that they do!"

    - Asiah Mae

  • “I enjoyed the experience of emotional-mental-physical-spiritual-financial liberation. It was so healing to receive a creation of love from gentle tending to the land. Plant medicine makes me feel serenity, secure, and love. My favorite thing about these plant medicines are their powerful effects on my health, their beauty, and their abundance.”

    - Lydia

  • “The Herb Bank made me feel supported and seen. I can tell this medicine and project has so much love and kindness infused in it. It's so touching. I've also started doing research on how to incorporate herbalism into my life more. I'm inspired to make well crafted medicine to share with myself and others. I ordered one of my friends the lavender pain salve and I'm really excited to give it to her as a way to pass it on this love.”

  • “This medicine and this program were a bright light for me when I most needed it. During a time of intense transition, applying for [and] receiving my package offered me a loving reminder that I am worthy of care and that, as a QPOC, colonized person working in social justice, more in need of it than I realize.”

    - Jade

  • “It made me feel good that there is community out there that cares about me.”

    - joss

  • “The herb bank positively impacted me by giving me access to plant medicine that I normally would not have access to due to my financial situation. To be able to get these with no judgement for my financial struggles is truly special.”

  • “[it] made me feel valuable, held, & loved. my love language is through gifts & at times herbal medicine wasn't/isn't the most accessible to me, so to have the combination of receiving medicine í really felt í needed was a blessing. my favorite thing is the sweetness of them - the intention & the work that goes behind the medicines; being in right relationship, harvesting, holding, learning, preparing sacred space, creating, alchemizing, & then sharing with the world.”

    - eréndira

  • “Receiving a package full of thoughfully made & beautiful handcrafted items was such a gift & blessing. And it was really easy to make a request! The hard part was getting over my initial hang-ups around asking for support.”

    - C

  • “As an Indigenous person with chronic pain, I had been actively trying to find products made by a BIPOC person who also has personal experience with chronic pain and thus knows what is needed. I received the ten pines pain salve, the rose + tulsi grounding potion, and the sensitive skin balm. Unlike other products I've tried, the pain salve and the sensitive skin balm smell wonderful and don't feel greasy on my skin, and the grounding potion tastes sweet like honey and not like cough syrup. I had no idea that this was possible with just plants and herbs!”

FUND THE HERB BANK

FUND THE HERB BANK

Since 2021, with the support of our monthly members, the Herb Bank has shared 492 free herbal care packages with Black &/or Indigenous folks! That’s 1,918 lovingly hand-crafted, sustainably packaged herbal remedies mailed out across the so-called U.S. & Canada in just three years.

The program has extended its offerings to include high-quality K/N95 respirators in care packages and is committed to redistributing funds directly to BIPOC mutual aid asks.

Distribution by year

2021: roughly 20 care packages (before launching a formalized system, tracking was not yet solid)

2022: 104 care packages

2023: 186 care packages / 112 K/N95 masks / $1,285 in direct mutual aid

2024 (thru Sept): 202 care packages / 420 K/N95 masks / $3,578.89 in direct mutual aid

The Herb Bank receives $1,595.79 in monthly recurring contributions from 37 members, funding ~21 care packages. Each care package of 4 products + shipping costs roughly $75.

This work is 100% funded by community - no grants, no wealthy backers. It is personal reparations in practice.

Non-Black and non-Indigenous folks are asked to contribute below.

Support the Herb Bank

Currently, we need to funnel all support efforts towards our farm’s land campaign on Givebutter. moonpence farm, home to Serenus Herbs, has just months left to pay off our farm’s land, in full, or lose it and everything we’ve built here (including the Herb Bank). Please contribute below, and consider making your contribution monthly!

Again, if we (serenus + moonpence farm) do not meet this goal on time, the Herb Bank will shut down permanently, the Serenus shop will close, moonpence will stop operating and our disabled family, team & pets will become displaced from our home.

Please share our fundraiser with intention and push yourself to contribute generously. Reparations are past due.
